PM: It is Sad When Someone Older Arranges a Funeral for Someone Younger

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has written a final farewell letter to his sister-in-law who passed away last week on Friday, 3 February 2023.

Prime Minister Hun Sen made a post on his official Facebook page on Monday night, 6 February, writing a final farewell message to his sister-in-law.

"Sister, tomorrow we will be apart! With only one night left, your body will be buried in the earth, your last resting place," he wrote. "Separation without saying goodbye is frustrating for the family, but this is a natural process that cannot be avoided: birth, old age, illness and death. But the saddest thing is older people giving funerals for younger people."

The Prime Minister also wrote about his family’s harmony, saying that as a family that never has conflict, experiencing this separation without being able to meet again has made everyone miss the past even more.

Last year, when the Prime Minister’s brother died, he was not able to attend the seven-day funeral procession because he had to travel to the United States to attend the ASEAN-US Summit. This time, when his sister-in-law passed away, the Prime Minister must lead a high-level delegation on an official visit to the People's Republic of China, a diplomatic schedule which was agreed upon over a month ago.

Mrs. Bun Sotha, the youngest sister of First Lady Bun Rany Hun Sen, passed away on Friday, 3 February 2023 at 6:13 AM at the age of 67. She was laid to rest at Wat Botum Vatey on Tuesday, 7 February 2023.
